Evaporative coolers are an effective and energy-efficient solution for air conditioning of industrial and commercial environments.

To ensure their maximum efficiency, healthiness of the treated air and, above all, durability over time, periodic and scrupulous maintenance is not only recommended, but essential.

Neglecting these devices can lead to fouling, operational inefficiencies and, in the worst cases, the proliferation of pathogens.

The pillars of preventive maintenance

Maintenance of evaporative coolers focuses primarily on the water distribution system and critical components.

Cleaning and sanitizing the tank and panels

The heart of the problem often lies in stagnant or circulating water, which, due to natural evaporation, concentrates mineral salts and promotes microbial growth.

  • Tank cleaning: it is essential to proceed with tank cleaning regularly. Water, even when partially drained and renewed, leaves mineral deposits (limestone). These deposits must be removed to prevent them from affecting the proper functioning of other components. A clean tank prevents the formation of algae and bacteria.
  • Evaporative panels (Pads): the panels, where evaporation takes place, should be inspected for fouling. Excessively fouled panels reduce cooling efficiency and air flow rate. In case of excessive wear or non-removable scale buildup, their replacement is necessary.

Checking the hydraulic circuit

Proper water circulation is vital to the cooling process.

  • Water distribution channel: check that the water distribution channel is not clogged by scale or debris. Water must be evenly distributed over the entire surface of the evaporative panels. Uneven flow leads to dry areas, reducing efficiency.
  • Water pump: the pump that lifts water from the tank to spray the panels is a mechanical element that is sensitive to hard water and debris. Check the integrity of the pump and the suction filter for obstructions.
  • Solenoid valveand drain: the loading solenoid valve must be functioning properly to ensure the correct water level in the tank. The drain system must be efficient to allow water exchange and avoid excessive salt concentration. A blocked solenoid valve can cause both failure to load and flooding.

Durability and maximum operational efficiency

A consistent maintenance program is not a cost, but an investment. Well-maintained devices maintain original energy efficiency, reducing consumption and preventing costly breakdowns.

Product durability is directly proportional to the care it receives. Regular servicing (pre-seasonal, seasonal, and post-seasonal) ensures that all components, from the pump to the panels, operate in optimal condition.

The longevity of a well-maintained cooler far exceeds that of a neglected unit, ensuring maximum return on investment.

Safety: a priority for operators

Maintenance of coolers, especially industrial ones installed on rooftops or in elevated locations, requires access to significant heights. Safety for operators performing maintenance is our top priority. Being equipped with elevator means, we can ensure that any work is conducted in accordance with the strictest occupational safety regulations.

The use of proper lifting equipment dramatically reduces the risks associated with working at height by providing a stable and safe workstation. Before any operation at height, it is essential to:

  • Total shutdown and disconnection: always cut off the main power and water supply to the cooler and signal the shutdown.
  • PPE (Personal Protective Equipment): ensure that operators wear appropriate PPE at all times, including harnesses, helmets and gloves.
  • Training: assigned personnel must be trained and qualified to operate the coolers and perform the specific maintenance procedures.

Commitment to safety and meticulous attention to the maintenance of key components (from checking the solenoid valve to cleaning the tank and water distribution channel) ensure not only an efficient and hygienic facility, but also a safer working environment for all.
